Travel information

An adventure inland? Highlights of Iceland with our ‘Around Iceland’ tour? Or brave the winter conditions and get to see the Northern Lights? What about the famous Laugavegur trail? How about pushing your limits on ‘Trekking under the Katla Volcano’?

It is hard to pick (just) the one!

First, look at the dates. The inland trip can only be done in the summer – the roads through the interior are closed for the rest of the year. Spring and summer bring very long days, giving you loads of energy. And the sight of the midnight sun!

For instance, the days are shorter in August, but still long enough, and August also often has better weather! And you have a great chance of seeing the Northern Lights in autumn!

Winter is great for seeing the Northern Lights and the cold isn’t too bad! However, you do have to be somewhat flexible on this trip, sometimes due to extreme weather. A pass may be closed, resulting in adjustments to the program.

If you want to book a trip or hold an option on it, here’s how you can do it:

Taking an option:

Please send us an email with the name and date of the trip you want to have an option on. If the travel date is at least 4 months in the future, we can give you a reflection period of 3 weeks from the moment we receive your email. You will receive a notification from us about when your option runs and when it expires.

If the trip is scheduled to depart within the next 4 months, you will be given a 2-week notice to confirm your participation. If the travel date is within two months, you can get an option of 1 week.

Please note that airline ticket prices often increase just before departure and we may need to request a surcharge. However, any additional fees will be discussed with you beforehand.

Booking:

You can book directly on our website and pay the deposit, or the entire amount.

If, due to certain circumstances, you are unable to make the down payment immediately, but you would like to participate, we will be happy to discuss an alternative solution. Send an email so that we can temporarily reserve a spot for you.

You can email info@localadventures.is

On all Local Adventures trips, there are up to 16 travelers and the tour leader.

If you would like to know more about the composition, please feel free to send us an email. We can give you information about the gender and age composition.

As far as we can estimate the number of bookings and options, the male/female ratio is practically the same.

In a group tour, most of us are strangers to each other. It’s great fun to get to know new people. Friendships formed here are often for life!

Treat each other with respect, as you would like to be treated. We do not accept any forms of racism, whether it concerns skin color, religion, or orientation.

Traveling as a couple? Of course, that’s possible!

Flight tickets are not included on our trips unless stated otherwise.

We are always happy to share our tips with you, though.

Financial

If you book a trip with Local Adventures, you can pay the entire payment or the deposit online immediately when booking via iDeal or Bancontact.

The down payment is 30% of the total travel sum and must be paid via your own bank. The remaining payment must be made no later than 6 weeks before the start of your trip. You will receive a message about this by email approximately 8 weeks before departure.

Local Adventures is registered in Iceland with the RSK (the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce) under the name LAdventures Ehf. as a partnership under Firm, at the address Laekjarbakka 3, 561 Varmahlid.

Our registration number is 431218-054.

The Icelandic bank holds travelers’ money until the last day of your trip. In the exceptional case that your trip is canceled for whatever reason, the bank will refund the money to your own account.

We are also affiliated with the Icelandic Tourist Board. Together with the bank, this organization guarantees that your money is in safe hands with us, so in the event of cancellation, bankruptcy or disaster you are always guaranteed your deposit or full payment back. Our license is 2019-023.

You can view our reviews on the domestic trip site or on Facebook via this link.

Taking out travel insurance is mandatory.

You may already have (continuous) travel insurance, but we can also arrange that for you. We can also take out cancellation insurance for you if you cannot come for certain reasons. No desire or weather conditions are of course not valid reasons for cancellation. This must be done within 7 days of booking the trip. If you would like this, please contact us immediately after booking so that we can provide you with a quote.

Also pay attention to your insurance to see what is included in the insurance, if you go in the winter and want to go skiing or go diving in the summer in Iceland (yes, that is possible!) you often have to adjust your insurance.

You can read more about travel insurance in the Conditions.

If the trip is canceled due to a lack of participants, we will let you know no later than 3 weeks before the start of the trip and we will immediately refund the paid amount to your account.

We often know in advance whether a trip will or will not take place and we try to keep you informed as much as possible!

General information

Everyone knows by now that our environment is not doing so well. Climate change, glaciers disappearing, and animals threatened with extinction. We fully realize that our travels, with flying and no possibility to drive through the interior with an electrically powered 4×4, also play a role in this.

We plant a tree in Iceland in the area of Varmahlid in the north for every traveler who comes with us. It also applies to the travelers who have experienced adventures with us in recent years. The first trees were planted in the autumn of 2021. In collaboration with a local farmer, we are making Iceland a bit greener again!
