Unforgettable Adventure Awaits at Katla Volcano in Iceland

DAY 1

Adventure

Our journey starts on the famous Road 1, following the scenic south coast.

We'll see the famous Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls of Iceland before entering a world of glaciers and mountains. Our powerful Super Jeep will easily tread the rough terrain for an exciting ride.

Exploring the Kötlujökull Glacier

When you reach the glacier base, you'll be awestruck by the stunning scenery.
Once you have geared up with crampons and helmets, we'll hike to the ice cave entrance, possibly using ladders (easy climb).

Remember, the Katla ice cave conditions change every time. However, it's suitable for most in decent physical shape. 

Þakgil Valley Trek

The trek starts from the ice cave by Katla volcano, leading through the beautiful Þakgil Valley. You'll cross the glacier which offers incredible views of the southern terrain.

We'll pass by Rjúpnagilii and descend Höfðabrekkäfrét, encountering a majestic gorge carved by rivers and glaciers.

Please note that wading shoes are needed to cross two rivers. As evening falls, we reach the unique campsite in Þakgil, where we'll spend our first night.

DAY 2

Morning Adventure

• You'll depart from Þakgil early in the morning and head to Sandá.
• Then, you'll cross the river and proceed to Sandhöfúd.

Heiðargil Descent

Begin the descent from Heiðargil, enjoying panoramic views. You'll get to see:

• Mýrdalsjökull glacier (Iceland's 4th largest glacier)
• Reynisfjörður
• Mýrdalinn valley

Vatnsdal Lake

As we descend to Vatnsdal, get ready to see a large lake. All those who feel brave enough can take a dip at the lake!

Green Valleys of Presthelli

You'll continue the trek to the lush green valleys of Presthelli. Finally, we will set up camp for the night in Presthelli.

DAY 3

A Memorable Journey

• On the third day, we tend to walk from Stóra dal to Gæsavatni by Vatnsdal where we will then walk down to Lambhagann.
• From there, we will go down the gorge and Ford Hafursánn after which we will make our way to Steinbogan where we will continue our way down Stórhöfðann.

Reaching the Farmhouse

• We then bend down towards Litlihöfði where we will see Búrfell, Pétursey, and a view of the sea.
• At the end of the day, we will come down to our accommodation at the Farmhouse in Skeidflot.

South Coast Return

• Enjoy a scenic South Coast tour with a Black Beach stop on your way back to Reykjavík.

Rest and Relaxation

• Unwind in the comfort of your bed in Reykjavík.
